Well, at least that was LAST year. We got ourselves a shiny, brand new year full of promise and hope! If we can get past Harry Reid trying to rape and pillage the Senate rules to protect Obamacare, it might be a fun year.
True I haven't posted since November (Bad Texas Raider, bad!) but I had good reason. Didn't really have any ripping good stuff to say. Hard to believe I could go that long without being longwinded, but there was a good measure of laziness in there too, I'm sure.
Oh yeah, I could have commented on all the ridiculous garbage our lame duck Congress pulled at the last second, trying to put a face saving coat of paint on their electorial butt whipping, but what's the point? It was plastic, fake, transparent, cheap, pandering and gutless. And everyone who saw it knew that. Not sure what I could have added to it that everyone didn't already see.
But I'm sure once the GOP takes the House in a few days, things are going to heat up plenty. I may actually enjoy commenting on politics again as it looks like Barry O is going into defensive mode (please forget I'm a tyrannical bastard that destroyed your economy long enough to re-elect me, please!), but I don't think it'll stick. The man is far too arrogant to effectively pull off the ol' Clinton lip biting martyr routine.
I was hoping by this time to also be crowing about how well my college and pro football teams were doing - the expectations were for a BCS game for the Miami Hurricanes and maybe AFC Title contention for the Miami Dolphins. Wulp, the 'Canes went 7-6 and got disassembled like a tinker toy by the Notre Dame Drunken Irish in the Sun Bowl (!) and the Fins went 7-9 and completely missed the playoffs, losing at the end of the season to the Bills, Browns, Lions (!) and finally to the Patriots in a 38-7 shellacking. Yeah, no busted expectations around here, nothing to see, just move along.
And on the film front, I really haven't seen any new ones this year except 'Toy Story 3' (very, very good and yes I did get a bit weepy at the trash furnace scene), 'Due Date' with Robert Downey Jr. (very, very bad and a colossal waste of time) and 'Red' with Bruce Willis (in the middle mediocre, probably a rental at best). I missed 'The Expendibles' but will probably catch 'Tron: Legacy' this weekend - sadly I've heard both were fair at best.
A pretty weak update, I know. But when I get better stuff cooking I'll put it down. In the mean time, Happy New Year and I hope a little hair of the dog this weekend made it a bit more pleasant one for you!
